How Transparent Are We in the Assessment of Student Learning?

Tue, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fourth Floor, Wilder

Abstract

The present study was designed to examine APLU University websites to see if (1) information about student learning assessment was easily accessible and (2) if student learning outcomes were stated, at the institutional level and/or program level, by going to the main institutional page and typing “student learning outcomes” in the search box. Despite increasing calls for transparency, results indicate that only 65% of universities provide institutional student learning outcomes on their websites and that less than 30% provide outcomes regarding all the degree programs. These results vary by institution size, VSA membership, and whether or not they are a minority-serving school. Implications for future work are suggested.
