The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact that comprehensive immigration reform will have on the access to education and the social mobility for immigrant students and their families. Since the 2016 Presidential election, the debate on immigration has been hotly contested. In the era of Trump’s presidency, immigration reform for the policies impacted both documented and undocumented students has come to the forefront and left many weary of their future at accessing the American Dream. Unfortunately, for several decades the federal government has failed in the growing debate on the status of undocumented students and access to higher education. Hence, states have begun to step in to pass legislation that has affected this population of students.
