School Composition, Poor Children, and Poor Schools in Post-Apartheid South Africa

Mon, April 16, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Second Floor, Gramercy Room East

Abstract

In the very unequal South African society, education is still highly polarized. One part of the school system – schools that largely served white children during apartheid – considerably outperform schools that historically served the black population, the bulk of the system. This paper documents and explores these issues.
