Data Management and Use in Research Practice Partnerships: Strategies From the Field

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 201D

Abstract

Through research-practice partnerships (RPPs) researchers and practitioners engage in long-term problem-solving collaborations aimed, in part, at increasing the capacity of personnel in local schools and districts to manage and use educational data for improvement. Based on the review of 61 empirical RPP studies published within the last five years (2013-2018), we identified the strategies employed by various RPPs for data management and use including: 1) data archival and retrieval; 2) iterative data representation and reporting; 3) mixed methods application; and 4) data use for generative and transformative impact in educational contexts. As researchers and practitioners initiate, develop, and sustain different RPPs, the findings of this review offer empirically derived data management and use strategies for consideration.
