Identifying Predictors of Suspension and Expulsion in Preschool

Abstract

This paper aims to identify predictors of preschool suspension and expulsion in three national datasets (Civil Rights Data Collection 2011-12, 2013-14, 2015-16). Using a zero-inflated negative binomial regression model, significant predictors of suspension and expulsion were identified. The significant predictors for suspensions differed from those that were significant for expulsions. These results have implications for both practitioners and policymakers.
