Developing Tech Leaders: How Undergraduate Women Make Meaning of Their Leadership Experiences

Tue, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 202A

Abstract

Women remain underrepresented in both the computing major and leadership positions in the tech field. This paper provides insight into these inequities by focusing on women’s leadership perceptions and experiences in the computing major. Using a mixed-methods approach, findings point to declines in women’s leadership confidence during college and describe inequitable peer dynamics that shape women’s perceptions of leadership in their field.
