Session Type: Workshop
Social justice education in the post-truth era demands a new paradigm that not only addresses how a transformation of consciousness can lead to a transformation of structures (hooks, 1996, p. 118), but highlights ways in which daily encounters are saturated with opportunities to either resist or conform to dominant narratives and contribute to or suppress a new vision of collaborative meaning-making. This hybrid workshop illuminates the lived experiences of women and youth of color at different points in their educational journeys; each are actively engaged in disrupting oppressive structures and transcending false limitations. Their multimodal narratives demonstrate ways to create spaces so that critical conversations can unfold to galvanize empowerment and allow creative-collaborative possibilities to emerge.
