Abstract

This paper reports on findings from a one-year research project aimed at investigating an ethical approach to teaching about global issues in secondary classrooms. Through participatory research with teachers in England, Finland and Sweden, the project aims to advance scholarship in the fields of Environmental and Sustainability Education and Global Citizenship Education, share a framework for ethical global issues pedagogy with secondary school teachers, refine the framework through empirical research with teachers in classrooms, and develop a teacher-endorsed resource. In this paper we will articulate the rationale for ethical global issues pedagogy reflecting critical research in both fields, share the framework selected and adapted by the researchers based on this rationale, and offer key findings emerging from the data.
