What Drives Innovation? Investigating Innovation Network of Preservice Teachers and Self-Concept

Abstract

This study foregrounds the important social processes through which pre-service teachers come to understand their perception of self-efficacy. We investigate the coevolution of social networks among a pre-service teacher cohort and their perception of self-efficacy at three points in time using the Siena models. Data include 48 pre-service teachers enrolled in university-based teacher preparation programs which utilize a cohort model of trainings. Findings suggest a number of dynamic processes of tie formation and adaption of personal beliefs as well as homophilous tendencies in forming social relationships. This work offers a new perspective on complex social processes through which pre-service teachers grow during preparations and may inform the design and implementation of preparation programs.
