Educational Background and Knowledge of Refugees as Determinants of Study Success in Higher Education

Abstract

Gaining access to higher education without bureaucratic boundaries is an important concern for refugees and has recently attracted academic interest. Studies have been initiated worldwide, exploring how the successful integration of students with a refugee background into tertiary education can be effectively supported. The project XXXX focuses on refugees’ course of study in Kiron Open Higher Education, based on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and examines which factors play a key role in the academic success of refugees and further draws implications for improving study opportunities and teaching-learning processes. This paper presents the project’s assessment framework, study design and analysis conducted in the first study phases using multiple objective indicators and valid assessments of the refugee students’ knowledge and skills.
