"What More Do You Want From Me?" Recovering From Doing More Only to Get Less

Abstract

In this commentary paper, the author reflects on her role as a Black woman assistant professor responsible for educating and training interpreters. The author details how their credentials are often called into question in ways her colleagues re not, especially as it relates to her being "too Black, too junior, and too woman.” Ultimately, this author shares how her placement within these tensions influenced how they chose to address the additional labor of performing and proving her expertise by releasing herself from the burden of others expectations.
