The Relationship Between School Ethical Culture and Science Achievements: The Implicit Meaning of TIMSS

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Floor: Convention Level, Ballroom

Abstract

This study aimed to explore whether a shared perception of 'Ethical School Culture' (ESC) emerged from teachers' questionnaires that were distributed in 45 participant countries on behalf of TIMSS 2015. The results indicated that ESC includes four dimensions: "teachers' profession," "care for students' learning," "interaction with colleagues," and "respect of rules." Our findings may support a universal perspective, showing how common perceptions of ESC affect student achievements. However, the different impact of ESC dimensions across countries may be explained by the national context, which depends on specific policies of each country.
