Black students in Canada have consistently under-performed in Ontario in large part because of the impact of racism and marginalization on their schooling experience. The students are exposed to lowered academic expectations, school to prison profiling and limited preparation and guidance to facilitate effective post-secondary transition. The research has highlighted the importance of supporting Black students in developing positive racial and academic identities to foster academic success at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
