Abstract

Borrowing imagery from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and theoretical concepts from Karen Barad’s spacetimemattering, this paper works to explore 1) the ways in which transcription is creative work, 2) the degrees to which current literature elides or explores these creative elements, and 3) the ethical implications of researchers’ standard disacknowledgement of transcription as an intra-active suturing together of verbal exchanges, personal understandings, and texts.
