In this presentation I explain how Latin American foundations of education provides powerful categories and concepts to enrich the field of educational foundations. The difference between coloniality and postcolonialism in education offers a rethinking of familiar categories in critical theory and pedagogy in order to overcome the Western ethnocentrism in education. Many other Indigenous, Afro-descendant, Mestizo, etc. peoples from Latin America have many concepts with which to enrich the discussion on the foundations of education. In this sense, Latin America as a vehicle of another philosophical presence (Xirau, 1993, 1997) can enrich educational foundations beyond being seen as an afterthought or folklore, just as Latin American individuals can lead the discussion.
