Abstract

Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) continue to be the top choice of at least one out of five African American college students, however, little is known about the leadership experiences of undergraduate Black women at HBCUs in elected student leadership positions. This paper analyzes 45 visual elicitation pictures of undergraduate Black women at HBCUs who have expressed through visual portraits, their interpretations of their leadership experiences. Findings suggest that many of their experiences are based on serving others, being their authentic selves, and being role models.
