Abstract

In response to the ACTFL’s initiative and the gap existing in identifying High-Leverage Teaching Practices (HLTPs) in World Language (WL) teaching, this study investigated and decomposed HLTPs in a video corpus of exemplary WL teachers. To contextualize the proposed HLTPs by Glisan and Donato (2017), each HLTP is broken down into component micro-practices and instructional moves illustrating the ways in which the practice was achieved in particular classroom contexts and moments. This line of research is of great significance since it is only through making visible and breaking down instructional moves that novice teachers can quickly grasp the practice and truly learn to appropriate and enact the teaching practice for themselves.
