Abstract

NGSS is a new way of teaching and learning science for many in-service teachers, teacher candidates and teacher educators. This creates an opportunity for all stakeholders to learn and develop together in their NGSS readiness and beliefs about the effectiveness of their science teaching. To maximize this opportunity, a professional development workshop was designed and implemented for teacher candidates and their cooperating teachers within a science methods course. A mixed methods design was used to capture the statistically significant increase in teacher candidates’ and cooperating teachers’ NGSS readiness, personal science teaching efficacy and science teaching outcome expectancy for teacher candidates and cooperating teacher. Creating opportunities to learn NGSS pedagogy and content together is valuable for all stakeholders.
