Mentoring to EXCEL: Black Male Perception of Effective Mentorship in a Social Justice Intervention Program

Tue, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Black boys are disproportionately “pushed” out of school (i.e. suspended and expelled) and incarcerated at higher rates compared to their male counterparts of any racial group. In 2014, Civil Rights Data Collection (CDRC) released a study finding that Black boys receive two out of every three suspensions. This research project looks to answer this injustice with mentorship.
