Developing a Shared Vision of Multicultural Teacher Education Through Collective Self-Study

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This research focuses on the design and implementation of a collective self-study project undertaken by 14 teacher educators at the University of XXX. The aim of the study was to develop a discursive space among us to bring together the diverse understandings and experiences of the group to develop a framework for multicultural education and work towards it. The data resources we collected were 1) self-interviews, 2) art based sculptures and presentations of them and 3) poems created from the thoughts and ideas of participants. Developing a communicative space for the teacher educators allowed us to get to know each other’s ideas as well as one‘s own, and based on this distill a shared focus we were willing to commit to.
