This study proposes a method for providing examinees with estimated scaled scores and additional statistics, including scaled score conditional standard error of measurement (CSEM) for building scaled score error bands and estimated percentile ranks using an operational examinee group as the norm, based on performance on a practice exam that is a shortened version of an operational exam. Preliminary results indicated that reasonable estimates of scaled scores can be obtained from shortened practice tests, and inclusion of more items or items with high discriminating power both improved the accuracy of estimated scaled scores and additional statistics obtained from the shortened practice exams.
