Using the Technology Integration Planning Cycle to Design Online Coursework for Literacy Teachers

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

As practicing teachers are increasingly interested in pursuing professional development online, systematically identifying effective instructional practices in both the instructional design and the learning of teachers in these courses is important. In the preparation of literacy teachers specifically, the ILA Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals 2017 are a useful tool to support university instructors and professional development providers as they both design courses and select learning objectives for teachers related to developing content and pedagogical knowledge in online learning environments. Therefore, in this study, we seek to understand the experiences of learners and an instructor in an online course that is informed by national literacy standards.
