Engaging With Educational Leadership Researchers Who Pursue Queer Issues: Lessons for Preparation and Development

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

We engage with educational leadership researchers who have pursued queer issues to learn about their experiences and what these experiences mean to begin to account for the observed lack of research on and silenece regarding educational leadership research and queer educational issues. Drawing on subjectivity theory, we weave this with researchers’ experiences to more richly understand how this impacts research on social justice and diversity in the field, and consequently, how this affects a research-based approach underpinning educational leadership preparation and development (ELPD). We construct the activity of ELPD as an opportunity to catalyze engagement and collaboration between researchers and school leaders to improve leadership practices and outcomes for queer students and staff drawing on collective action.
