CREATE: A Reflexive Tool for Designing Impactful Research in Physical Education With Children and Youth

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

There should be a distinction between research on and research with children and young people. While research on children and young people positions the researcher as expert, research with children and young people takes into account broader academic debates around the need for researchers to reflect on ‘ethically important moments’ (McEvoy et al., 2016) and to show a greater ‘ethic of care’ (Heath et al., 2007). This three-year qualitative research project (funded by EERA), utilised a design thinking case-study approach. The key output was the development and implementation of a reflexive tool for researcher design. This comprises six core principles - CREATE [Connections; Reflexivity; Empathy; Adherence; Transparency; Empowerment].
