Building Collaborative Networks to Advocate for the Good of K–12 Education

Mon, April 20, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

The imperative of collaboration has increasingly become part of our work. For the past few years we have proactively collaborated with educators, union officials and policymakers to address broader societal and educational issues. This presentation shares findings from 2 research studies on the effects of state policy changes on teachers and families and our efforts to utilise research to shape policies. Further, we report our efforts to build formal and informal professional networks (focused on developing innovative practices in K-12 schools) with those who develop, implement and assess educational policies. Finally, we offer recommendations on the role of university faculty members in terms of research and advocacy.
