Using Networked Improvement Communities to Increase Equity in Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Though still in the development phase, the CS-CLIC model is a promising approach to increasing minority participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics coursework and careers. This paper presents findings from the Computer Science Colorado Learning and Identity Collaborative (CS-CLIC), a research-practice, networked improvement community approach to increasing equitable success in advanced placement (AP) computer science coursework. Seven rural high school educators participated in CS-CLIC. Professional learning within the networked community included computer science content, equity, and identity-based motivation. Baseline analyses revealed perception gaps for historically underrepresented student groups. Upcoming analyses will include the effect of CS-CLIC on student and teacher perceptions and success in AP Computer Science Principles.
