Effective High-Impact Pre-Appointment Principal Preparation Programs: An International Study of What Works

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

It is internationally recognised that the role of principal has changed substantially from one of technical management to a role that is improvement focused, political, and requires social competence. Principals of today are required to effectively lead high-functioning strategic organisations in which professional capital thrives. Recognising the educational, economic and social imperative to develop effective high impact principals, many international education jurisdictions through government mandates have introduced or have significantly redesigned existing pre-appointment principal preparation programs. This paper reports the findings of six international principal preparation programs and details the partnerships, learning design, innovative structures and policy levers to ensure sustainable high-impact programs.
