Institutions of Higher Education are responsible for training an increasingly diverse student population for both professional and societal responsibilities. This grounded theory study explores the intersectionalities of cultural and civic identities with 30 undergraduate students attending one Hispanic-Serving Institution. Findings indicate that students had a difficulty describing their civic identity without additional prompts. However, when discussing civic involvement they made statements that implicitly acknowledged that their civic identity was influenced by their cultural identification. Finally, participants described their civic identity as either a sense of belonging or lack of belonging to a community.
