Research in K-12 computational thinking (CT) is increasing with the focus on characterizing CT engagement of children. However, research has yet to explore children with disabilities. In this study, we aimed to explore children with mild autism’s experiences during a CT activity and their engagement in CT competencies. To achieve this aim, we grounded this study into Vygotsky’s theory for special education and CT problem-solving framework. We conducted an exploratory case study of two boys and their parents as they engaged in solving coding problems. The findings highlight their capabilities of engaging in CT competencies and their different experiences during this activity stemming from their parent’s different involvements. We provided brief suggestions for future research and implications for educators.
