Instructional practices incorporating diverse media such as pictures and videos have been found to support EFL students' language learning and boost their motivation to learn. In this case study, we investigated how young adult EFL students perceived learning vocabulary through movie clips that demonstrated their meaning and use. Seven Korean EFL students aged 19-20 were interviewed about this instructional practice. We found that the students perceived the use of movie scenes as practicable, fun, and memorable for learning vocabulary. However, they also found movie scenes to be confusing, distractive, and unfamiliar when they did not have prior knowledge of the movie. Our findings suggest that movie clips can support EFL students' vocabulary learning when chosen appropriately for students.
