In this paper, I examine the ways that early adolescents discussed action on the climate crisis and other socioenvironmental challenges in the context of a middle school curricular unit focused on sustainability and action. I focus on student depiction of action across scales, looking at the ways in which students depicted action as individual behaviors that can address climate change, which can be fostered by spreading awareness about these behaviors to other people. I also look at the ways that some students depicted action as collective change making at school or within other systems.
