Recruiting Students to Physical Education Teacher Education Undergraduate Programs

Thu, April 16, 12:15 to 5:15pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Session Topic= Recruiting students to PETE undergraduate programs
• Objectives= (1) gather ideas from different institutions on how to best recruit
undergraduate students; (2) establish a set of action steps to implement these best
practices.
• Session Format= interactive conversation through working groups of PETE faculty to
brainstorm ideas for recruitment or undergraduates to PETE programs. These working
groups will be preceded by a brief (5-7minute) explanation of what has been done at
the organizational level (SHAPE, NAKHE etc), and individual university level
• How SIG members will participate/interact= SIG members will work in small groups to
share recruitment techniques that have worked in their universities. SIG members will
then come up with the contents of a "tool kit" that we can manufacture after the
conference to send to other PETE faculty to help them in recruiting. Finally, SIG
members will come up with, and present to the rest of the SIG their suggestions for next
steps in more effectively recruiting undergraduates to PETE programs.
• Preferred Length= 55minutes
