UNESCO as the Global Public Intellectual for the 21st Century: A View From the United States

Abstract

The 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have placed a high priority on the quality of education—and on learning, at all levels of education. This has led to substantial increases in attention to, and international development assistance, for the improvement of education worldwide, and at all levels. By 2030, the SDGs place great emphasis on the elimination of gender disparities and equal access especially in terms of the most marginalized populations. This panel will describe current initiatives, in diverse countries, as to how universities can be actors in promoting this vision and practice to achieve the SDGs.
