Session Summary

The GPS of Medical Knowledge for the 21st Century

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The health knowledge explosion of the next decades is likely to be considerable.
IBM estimates that by 2020 human knowledge will be doubling every 12 hours.
Doctors will not be able to hold all the knowledge they require to provide high
quality healthcare but some knowledge will have to be retrieved very rapidly still, for example the treatment of a patient with life threatening anaphylaxis or an acute myocardial infarction where seconds count. We need to identify what knowledge will be required to practice medicine in the next two decades and where will that
knowledge will reside – beneath skull and skill or in the cloud or a combination of both.
