Session Summary

Language-Embodied Integrative Facilitation Effect in Bilingualism: Behavioral, Developmental, and Neurophysiological Studies

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium is a feast for AERA-scholars interested in the brain research in relation to Facilitation Strategies to bilingualism. We attempt to bring trangulative conversations to answer the general questions “What-accounts-for-language-learning-optimalization?” and “Which-training-works?” This 7-paper-proposal symposium provides generalized-mechanisms for Chinese-English bilinguals. We collects evidence on a series of questions about “What-is-Language Embodied Integration Facilitation Effect (LEIFE), How-does-LEIFE-matter for language learning in general, whether-and-to-what-extent-does-LEIFE-training-matter for optimal language learning among Chinese-English-bilinguals?” Methodologically, this symposium covers behavioral/developmental/neurophysiological (e.g., EEG, fNRIS), cross-sectional/longitudinal learning trajectory approaches. The theoretical merits extend from the classic cognitive approach to neo-classicalism of embodied cognition, in which we add “linking action to meaning” from the embodied cognitive perspectives.
