Session Type: Symposium
The concept of borders illuminates the field of mathematics education in many ways. Researchers and practitioners take different approaches towards borders including questioning, challenging, crossing, blurring, and erasing them. The variety of perspectives regarding borders is reflected in this symposium which aims to explore borders in the context of mathematics pre-service teacher education. We present five papers on the following topics: crossing borders between Western and non-Western research methodologies, bridging the gap between the coursework and practica, racialized discourses, crossing virtual boundaries, and queering borders. This symposium aims to motivate educators to reflect on the role that borders and reactions to them play in their own research and practice.
