Abstract

This session focuses on dual language learners’ vocabulary knowledge from diverse perspectives. Through five papers that employed different research designs, we aim to examine dual language learners’ performance in Spanish-English conceptually-scored vocabulary at the item level (Paper 1), dual language learners’ Spanish-English conceptually-scored vocabulary development (Paper 2), differential item functioning of an academic vocabulary measure between English-only students and dual language learners (Paper 3), predictors of first and second language vocabulary among dual language learners attending dual immersion programs (Paper 4), and the differential effects of a research-based content-area literacy intervention on English-only students and dual language learners (Paper 5).
