Session Summary

Transforming Justice Through Teaching and Learning for the Public Good

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This proposed symposium seeks to examine what it means to teach and learn in the age of hyper incarceration and the ongoing criminalization of Black, Latinx, Indigenous, immigrant, queer, and other non-dominant children and their families. More specifically, this session seeks to demonstrate how various disciplines can leverage restorative and transformative justice theory and practice in the teaching of Science, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies/History to create and sustain purpose and belonging alongside robust intellectual exchanges in classroom communities. This symposium considers multiple stakeholders and how they conceptualize a Transformative Justice Teacher Education.
