Session Type: Symposium
Research on teacher motivation has demonstrated that it has various important implications. However, teacher motivation is still understudied and there is much we do not know. This symposium includes multiple theoretical and methodological approaches to provide an in-depth examination of in-service teachers’ motivation from diverse educational contexts. The symposium addresses four questions: 1) Do teachers’ perceptions of student personality relate to teachers’ teaching abilities and classroom goals? 2) What are the associations among teachers’ perceived cost, job satisfaction, and career intentions? 3) Do teachers have distinct motivational profiles, and do profiles differ by teachers’ beliefs and perceptions of the classroom environment? 4) What are teachers’ own definitions of career success? Last, we discuss theoretical and methodological issues facing the field.
