Session Summary

Using Measurement to Improve Social and Emotional Instruction in Preschool

Tue, April 21, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Crucial social and emotional skills are developed during preschool. Teachers play an important role in facilitating the development of those skills in children. Professional development can train teachers in practices that promote social and emotional skills. However, professional development is best implemented with rigorous measurement of teaching and child behaviors. This session will present two pairs of presentations: One of each pair will focus on the measurement of social and emotional teaching behaviors and one of each pair will focus on professional development linked to those measures in authentic settings. This session will thus highlight both high-quality measurement and how that measurement can be used in professional development.
