Session Type: Working Group Roundtable
Sessions in this working group roundtable address the past, present and future of critical literacies on a transnational scale. In this session, we intentionally draw on multiple critical epistemologies, including European, Black, and Indigenous thinkers from the Global South and the Global North. At a time when post-truth paradigms influence the ways education is understood and enacted, we seek to ensure that critical literacies have a place at the table and are not relegated to critical projects of the past. As oppressive discourses, institutions, and forces are increasingly transnational, and as socioeconomic injustices grow and inequities widen, research and organizing that works with organizational stakeholders to respond to oppression within, across, and beyond national boundaries must also grow and diversify.
