Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will bring together experts in adolescent developmental psychology, education, and sociology for a cross-disciplinary discussion of the science of adolescence and its applications to education, as presented in a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, The Promise of Adolescence: Realizing Opportunity for All Youth. The report concluded that the scientific advancements in adolescent development, combined with the economic and societal changes of the past century, have presented an opportunity for change in the education sector. However, the current education system is not aligned with these findings. In this session, members of the study committee will discuss the education sector of the future and explore practice and policy changes that support the promise of adolescence.
