Educators Meet the Fifth Estate: Social Media in Education

Abstract

This symposium presents the field of social media in education with the intent to catalyze involvement. The papers include a review of research on pre-service teachers’ learning with social media; exploring social structure, influence, and content exchange in social media for educational leaders; using social media to investigate what topics and resources teachers curate on-line; how teachers become teacherpreneurs; and Understanding the Social Structure of #NGSSChat through social network analysis. The chair and discussant offer perspectives from large scale policy and diffusion of innovations in education. The community of scholars will be extended by incorporating active participation through attendee’s use of social media (#cloud2class), share new research, or reflect on how social media are currently used in education.
