Session Summary

Problems of Practice in Research on Educational Inequalities: Lessons From the Los Angeles Region

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Educational inequality is a systemic problem in American K-12 public education. The purpose of this session is to advance understanding of the challenges facing reformers working to address inequities linked to race, language difference, and income in diverse urban communities. The four papers address a broad range of policy areas, including alternative schools, restorative justice, and redistributive budgetary practices. The research addresses priorities identified through a series of cross-stakeholder focus groups conducted in partnership with education stakeholders, including district leaders, school leaders, and advocacy organizations. The panelists share recent insights and experiences that will contribute to the improvement of reforms addressing opportunity gaps and respond to the call for stronger scholar-practitioner partnerships.
