Session Type: Symposium
This symposium aims to highlight the global nature of school choice policies and also seeks to bring into conversation studies that examine under-researched aspects of these policies through sociological perspectives. The studies included in this symposium explore issues that have received less attention in school choice research but which are important for understanding how policies play out in local settings and for providing knowledge for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to consider in practice. Collectively, the papers are attentive to the dynamics within and between social groups, the perceptions and agency of individual actors (e.g., families and school leaders), and the socio-cultural contexts in which these dynamics play out on the ground.
