Session Summary

Lesson Study Variation Across Contexts

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Lesson study originated in Asian countries, where the status of teachers and teaching, the culture for professional development and the dedicated time for it, are often unlike what is found in other settings. Additionally, “proven” interventions rarely work in most or all settings; understanding “what works, for whom, and under what conditions” (Bryk, Gomez et al., 2015 , p.13-14) lies at the heart of instructional improvement. In this structured poster session, authors will describe ways in which lesson study has been adapted for implementation inside and outside of Asia, focusing on specific adaptive features that enable lesson study to proceed while preserving its fundamental integrity.
