Session Type: Symposium
What if we are schooled with the skills needed to work together across differences? Would we have the courage to design a world that reflects our collective imagination? This session is comprised of four panellists from three universities in Canada and the United States who will present their research on the possibilities that arise when social-engagement is fostered through Design-Based Learning (DBL). DBL is a pedagogical approach that invites students to learn design problem-solving and ways of thinking. Design problem-solving is solution-focused and optimistic by nature. Designing blurs theory and practice and cultivates collaboration and imagination. The session aims at promoting the curricular possibilities of social-engagement through design, and strengthening collaborations for DBL research between Canada and the United States.
