Session Type: Symposium
This session will bring together a panel of education scholars alongside direct service providers who are actively addressing the disproportionate death rate of African American children and youth in Sacramento, California. Specifically, our panel focuses on The Black Child Legacy Campaign, a community-driven movement to build Black cities and schools. This powerful collaborative, which began in 2015, represents a wide array of critical stakeholders, including community-based organizations, university faculty, health professionals, parents, and young people. Building on the AERA conference theme, each panelist will address the institutional barricades and borderless possibilities that bring people, policies, and programs together in service of Black power.
