In 2018, the U.S. Department of Education proposed new regulations governing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). The new regulations include changes for how campuses respond to complaints of sexual harassment, including a more stringent definition of what constitutes sexual harassment, guaranteeing the right to cross examine the complainant, limiting liability to on-campus or campus sponsored events, and allowing campuses to use mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Each of these changes may impact campus policies and practices, as well as subsequent court decisions. The purpose of this Town Hall is to stimulate dialogue regarding the new regulations and generate research questions and study ideas to explore the effects of the new regulations.
