Session Type: Roundtable Session
In the spirit of the 2020 AERA call, this panel shares collaborative researcher-practitioner studies of educators’ experiences with equity- and inclusion-oriented work in Trump-era U.S. settings with politically polarized populations. We share studies of educators’ support needs in 1) a national sample, then in 2) Southern California; 3) eastern Nebraska; and 4) suburban-rural Pennsylvania. We also discuss interventions under design with practitioners. A final paper 5) analyzes a research-based effort to design a “workbook” to support educators in “equity” work today. Each research group analyzes a crucial research question: How are educators experiencing equity and inclusion efforts in the current political climate, and what supports do they need to engage in equity work right now?
